Best places to camp in Northern California?

And I don't mean places with cabins and gift shops. Preferably all tent camping with at least a little privacy. Places to swim and hike.

Answer
Nearer to SF is Olema and China Camp - NOT China Basin, China Camp. There's a nice old campground near Olema but I don't remember any specific names. Yosemite, Clear Lake, of course. Or Tahoe.

Answer
If you are camping in Northern CA, be real careful about bears. There are a lot of things you need to do to keep bears away from your campsite, such as keeping food away from you tent, and even keeping clothes you wear while cooking away, they can smell that too. Otherwise, CA is a huge state, there are tons of places. I like the Joshua Tree area. If your tenting, be prepared for warm days, and cool nights. You can camp with the bare essentials like food, water and clothes, or you can camp all the way, and not even seem like your roughing it. Here's one of my favorite campfire recipes, soooooo easy. Get pilsbury biscuts, in the can, the small ones, not the grands. Put them on a stick like you do with marshmellos, and roast. They will puff up and cook in a minute, them use spray magerine and cinnomon sugar to make cinnomon biscuts. SOOOOOO GOOD! Have Fun.
