Friends an I are planing a get away for late.january or early february, its about 15 of us, does anybody knw of nice sites, with good cabins where we can snow board for the first time and use sleds and what not? Itll be our first time going to the snow..

Answer
Many places around Lake Tahoe can help you out. Since you want to snow board and that requires a lift ticket, I suggest not getting a cabin, but staying at one of the resorts. I'll name a few where they have accommodations:
Squaw Valley
Northstar
Heavenly Valley
Sugar Bowl
If you still want a cabin, look for one in or near Tahoe City to be close to several resorts. Another option is to tent camp or RV at Sugar Pine Point resort where you can do cross country right outside your RV.
BTW, my son is a snow board instructor and he highly suggest you take a lesson to learn to snowboard, especially since none of you have even been to the snow before.

Family campground recomendations in Lake Tahoe?

A's fan

I want to take my family car/tent campimg for the first time and i want them to have a great experience. Can any of you seasoned Tahoe campers please recomend different locations, campgrounds, that are family friendly. Preferably child walking distance to swimming, fishing, hiking ect. If you have any suggestions for me (have not camped since i was a teenager) i'm a little rusty. Thank you!

Answer
South Lake Tahoe's Camp Richardsons Resort is the #1 choice and books very quickly. Best location on the lake to watch fireworks from and close to all that Lake Tahoe has to offer, full of historical cabins, bike and hiking trails, nature sights and marina. Tent camping, rv camping, cabin rentals you name it the place has it

Second choice is Zephyr Cove Resort, This place is on the Nevada side of the lake and a short drive to all that lake tahoe has to offer it too has all the offerings tent rv or cabins and all the amenities and also books very quickly.

For hiking Emerald Bay has incredible view trails that lead into the desolation wilderness and down to the castle but it is up on a very high ridge above Emerald bay and not ideal for biking Top class pizza will deliver to there campground though.LOL so it is not that far from south lake's attractions

Next Comes D.L.Bliss this is a well established state park as well with nearby access to Mountain biking and historical cabins and history 2nd best place on the lake to watch fireworks from. A bit far to the south lake attractions so it's a bit more quiet and yet still family oriented.

There are dozens more campgrounds some run by the national forest or state parks some run by private operations like KOA's, I have stayed at nearly all of them or paid a visit and the above are the tops in my opinion, a simple listing of the rest can be found here

Which ever you choose again the reservations go fast and some sites may already be full

good Luck!
