I am planning a weekend camping trip for 3 friends, and need advice on where to camp. The goal of this weekend is to camp as primitive as possible with little food, no tents and maximum seclusion. We dont plan on drinking and want full experience of the oregon wilderness. We will bring fire arms, and plan on starting a campfire (with as little tools as possible.) Where is ideal undeveloped BLM to accomplish this? we are using Eugene Oregon as the kick off point and have a 100 mile range.
Goals:
1) Primitive camping
2) maximum seclusion
3) minimal environment impact
4) camp fire
5) use of fire arms

Answer
the use of firearms is cheating if your primitive camping at best a bow and arrow or an atlatle but no guns allowed. Dispersed camping is allowed in the national forests as well so any place is good off a forest or BLM road. Good Luck!

Which Oregon town has the best blend of the outdoors, music/arts, and diversity?

Q. I am a college aged male looking to eject myself from a crummy cultural experience in Utah. Which of the following towns offer the most diverse outdoor/social/art experience?(feel free to recommend others) Eugene, Corvallis, Ashland, Vancouver.
So In other words, if you were/are in your early twenties and were looking for the best place to meet other young people with these similar interests, which town would you pick? (If you know of a town in WA state that meets my criteria let me know.)
Portland is not out of the question, but I am looking for a "baby" Portland. Somewhere more authentic, less busy, and with not so much emphasis on the "scene". I'd like a town with plenty of opportunities for outdoor life (camping, biking, close to an ocean is a plus) and a strong arts community.
If you have lived in Oregon, please give me the low down on your cultural experience.

Answer
Portland has got a bit much about being in the scene thing. All the college towns are interesting and have their own attractions and atmosphere. Why not see them all. It is not unusual for one area to be great and then 90 minutes away a bad luck zone. Feel them all and give yourself the treat of driving up the coast from harbor/Brookings on up. Like to camp ? There are plenty of places to pitch a tent so you can have the time to check many places. Almost all of Oregon is fit for outdoor activities. The lower coast is the most dramatic from Mexico to Canada.
I have been away for quite awhile now so I don't know how the towns may have changed. Hurry before school lets out to get the taste of how is while students are there.
