Looking to go camping for the weekend at Big Sur. Know any good spots? We'd like to pitch a tent and make a campfire in a beautiful spot.
Answer
There is Andrew Molera walk-in campground a mile or so before the State Park {traveling south} campground and several other private campgrounds in the area. The best place in Big Sur {my preference} is Sykes Hot Springs, requires a 12 mile hike up the Big Sur canyon.

Good Tent Camping Site in Big Sur, Monterey?

I'm looking for a tent camp site around Monterey area. Any recommendations?
Answer
I went camping at Andrew Molara State Park. I wasn't crazy about it (not enough shade during the summer) but it would be perfect for some people. It is a short walk from the beach, and is also next to a river which people tube down. The camping area is a wide open space, about a quarter to a half mile hike away from the parking.
Another place I have gone, not in Big Sur, but closer to Monterey, is Mount Madonna. It is in the middle of a redwood and oak forest, and is very pretty. It is along highway 152, between Watsonville and Gilroy. It gets crowded in the summer.
