I am seriously considering taking my 11 year old son to a Cup Race this year. Due to tight vacation schedule here would be the parameters; We would CAMP ON-SITE and would have to be a race in August. I would like real world comparisons of both tracks, especially dealing with tent camping. We really enjoy "tenting" and really helps us bond. The Nascar thing will really help in that regard as we are both avid fans.

well for camping onsite your best bet is to go with pocono. even though I like Watkins Glen just as much as Pocono. Pocono you would be able to see more of the track if you are going to be in the infield during the race or if you are up in the stands there are many places in the stands that you can see well over 3/4s of the track and a select few spots can see the entire track. Waltkins Glen is a good track it has racing much like the short tracks but would not be a good track to see your first few races. Plus I am a little biased I only live an hour or so away from Pocono.

in conclusion go with Pocono. Watkins Glen woudl be a good fall back spot if you cant go to a different one.

where in pocono you can camp right next to the river?

Julia

I went to this camp site few years ago
I cant recall this place

we set up our tents right text to the river
there was paintball and canoe and kayaks for activities

you could get in the river after eating
you could play in the water anytime

does anyone recognize this campsite in pocono ?

THANKS

Kittatinny Canoes & Paintball in Barryville, NY, on the Delaware River. Camping, paintball, rafting, canoeing, kayaks, zip-line. Take 97 North from Port Jervis, past Pond Eddie and its old steel and wood bridge, go through Hawk's Nest (windy, scenic road above the river), then pass the Shohola bridge (PA County Rd 434, NY Rt 55). A couple miles further on 97 you'll see the main office/shops on your right, with the river campground on your left.

I used to live 15 minutes from them in PA. Beautiful area, but if you rent a raft, canoe or kayak, please be aware that the PA side of the river is all private property, so please respect these property-owners rights by not littering or landing on their property. There's not much nearby for shopping so make sure to stock-up on food in Port Jervis (or across the river in Matamoras, PA) to avoid a long trip back for supplies. There is a Pizza Place, gas station and a couple of pubs nearby, but nothing worth recommending.
