best tent camping upstate ny image
Q. i want to go primitive camping with my family but dont want to go very far. we want the full experience ( hiking for the day then just pitching a tent and starting out own fire. We would like something with a lake for swimming. Any ideas or comments THANKS

There is no place on Long Island that are remote enough for you to really go "primitive" camping. But there are about a half dozen state parks with campgrounds, a few miles of trails and swimming, mostly on beaches along the ocean front. For a real deep wilderness experience you will need to drive to the Adirondacks upstate or the White Mountains in Vermont.
