best tent camping upstate ny image

So my fiance and the boys want to go on a camping expedition, kind of like how they do in 'without a paddle' (kinda) they want to just set out and pop up their tent in one location where maybe you can hike, fish, rock climb etc, then hike further, or canoe further etc, and end up at another location to do the same and keep going. How does one find a camping expedition thats either with a group or pre planned etc. does it exist? were in upstate NY so we would like for it to be near by maybe the Adirondack mountains etc but really will take any idea. Thanks!

Look up "outfitters" or "wilderness guides" in your area. Every year the New York Travel and Adventure show hosts the whole gammet of travel and adventure tour agencies through out your region. With shows and suppliers for fishing, hunting, climbing, boating, all sorts of adventures and there they book trips just like what you are looking for.

where can i go back country camping on long island or near it?
Q. i want to go primitive camping with my family but dont want to go very far. we want the full experience ( hiking for the day then just pitching a tent and starting out own fire. We would like something with a lake for swimming. Any ideas or comments THANKS

There is no place on Long Island that are remote enough for you to really go "primitive" camping. But there are about a half dozen state parks with campgrounds, a few miles of trails and swimming, mostly on beaches along the ocean front. Here is a link to one and the site has all of the Long Island parks listed with photos and the features of each one:

For a real deep wilderness experience you will need to drive to the Adirondacks upstate or the White Mountains in Vermont.
