I'm starting to save money to move out of Pennsylvania. While I'm saving, I'm deciding between what state will be best for me. What are the steps to moving and starting over? Getting a job, moving, re-establishing friends and relationships. I mean trying to get a new slate all together. I am taking no one with me when I go, so its slightly intimidating. I did nothing bad here, I just hate Pennsylvania. If it helps, I'm down to New Mexico/ Arizona/ Colorado, and in a dream, Australia.

Answer
I've made such moves many times in my life. I grew up in NY and have lived in many new places on my own, NM, AZ, CO included, and five others. I've recently moved back to AZ after many good years experiencing other places.

Adventures can be very good, and going on your own is far less restrictive than having a companion, but solo adventures can also be pretty bad if you are unprepared for the unexpected things that can happen. It depends on how many self-supporting skills you have. For example, if you are on a road trip in dodgy vehicle, you'd better have the tools and skills to fix it if it lets you down. A van or truck with a topper, or a station wagon is always better than having to rely on tent camping, if you are planning on making a trip out of it instead of going straight to a destination.

If roughing it isn't your thing, have plenty of cash and some credit cards or a marketable skill that will allow you to get work and obtain income quickly. If you aren't "street smart" then it would be wise to learn where it is safe to go and where it isn't. Having trusted contacts, even if friends of friends, can be extremely helpful. All communities have community services that can help new people get reestablished. Take advantage of them. If you are a churchy sort of person, that is a good anchor to depend on. If you're not, it can still be a good temporary way to get established somewhere, or get help if you need it. .

Since you asked in the philosophy forum, philosophically, a false expectation of what you will experience in a new place will lead to more unhappiness. Deal with the state of mind that creates unhappiness and you can live anywhere happily. If you have no idea of the potential problems you face, I hope that you have developed a good set of life survival skills or that you have an adequate safety net to catch you when you fall.

Good luck.

How to organise a camping trip?

Q. I would like to book a weekend camping trip for about 20 people? The camp manager told me that I need at least 20 campers.
The camp site is 50 km from Melbourne, Australia.
Now, where should I advertise to get 20 perspective campers?

Answer
I'm pretty sure that strangers won't be interested in going on a camping trip with other people they don't know. Personally, I only enjoy camping when I'm with friends and we can just goof off and be ourselves, laughing while we screw up pitching the tent or drop food in the fire.

Why not just find a different camp ground where you don't need so many people to book a site and go with some friends? No awkwardness, more fun.
