Where can I find reasonable camping in Co? Looking for somewhere near Denver?

Willalee

So we decided to go out and camp this summer. We are going to put all of our things in storage, and live in a tent for the summer. It's cheaper and I anticipate will be quite a fun experience!

My husband still plans on working - so we have to stay within an hour from Denver... and I realize we are going to have to move around a lot as most places give you only a 1-2 week max to camp at (unless you go to a KOA... and that is hardly camping).

We are new to CO and so we aren't entirely sure where to go and where to look. We plan on starting in July... soooooooo can someone give us some good ideas?

We will be mainly tent camping.

Why can't it be like it used to be? Everywhere is always 15 - 30 dollars a night! Dammit. :)

Im looking for a place for tent camping?

Stavis

Yeah. Hi! Im 17 years old and me and about 15 others (age 17 and 18- no parents allowed : ) ) are planning a camping trip. In May we took a trip to Rifle and it was perfect. But we wanted to change it up a little and go somewhere different. I was wondering if anyone would have any suggestions for a place for tent camping. I have been doing some research and havent been very successful with it. We plan on staying 3-5 days, so showers would be nice and bathrooms are a must have. Hiking is our main activity and lakes/rivers are always nice for fishing and just hanging out in or around. It doesnt matter where in Colorado, Southern Wyoming and Northern New Mexico are ok. so, 15 people, bathrooms (and showers if available, well-in the mountains, no more than a 5 hr drive from Denver, and at least some type of water (lake, reservoir, river, stream, whatev). Thanks! Links to websites or images are greatly appreciated. Thanks! ( ;

Answer
If you go on weekdays, you should be able to get a few sites at Lower Cataract Lake Campground. Otherwise, go below Lower Cataract Lake to Green Mountain Reservoir where you will find a huge amount of space, good fishing, and cold-water swimming. Many hiking trails are available in the Eagles Nest Wilderness Area.
