i'd be scared spitless. i love camping but i stay in my van while everyone else stays in their tent. a few years ago while we were in the smoky mountains a bear decided my tent was where he wanted to be. thought he was going to eat my little dog willie. we survived the night and i pitched...literally....my tent.

Is there anywhere to rough-it-camp in Tennessee?

I cant find anywhere to camp that isnt in an actual "campground". Im wanting to just head into the woods with a backpack and tent and camp for a few days. I dont own any land so does anyone know where to rough it in middle tennessee? Ive looked into the smokey mountains 7 day hike but i think you have to stay in those houses. Is that true or can you tent camp too?

There is wilderness camping in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. You are restricted to specific areas so you don't damage the natural areas, but it isn't like a normal campground. Take a look at
