Looking for a place to camp near Kansas City this weekend. We would probably be sleeping in the back of a pickup truck or in a tent with the truck nearby. We want to be able to have a camp fire, drink, and smoke weed, so it would be preferable to not have many people around (or laidback people around).
We also love hiking so awesome trails nearby is a big plus!

Clinton Lake is near Lawrence. they rarerly have any park rangers around so you should be good. lot of college kids go there and do the same thing. I wouldn't try Hillsdale because the rangers patrol it pretty heavily.

This summer my friend and I are planning to go on a road trip, what would the total cost be?

We're starting from north Jersey to around Kansas City, is our destination, but we'll probably explore its neighboring states as well. I calculated on this site that the gas would cost about 400$ for there and back. But how much would it cost for food and everything? We're planning on car camping or something and not using many diners or fast food places- just occasionally. Plus we're most likely going to shop. We might have 2 more people with us so splitting the cost would be good, but how much would the total cost be for everything?? If you could help me out that would be great.

Answer
I am not sure what car camping is. Realistically, I wouldn't plan on 4 people spending every night in the car. Or are you taking a tent and staying in campgrounds? If you're staying in modest motels, plan on $40 per night minimum. For campsites, maybe $15 to $20.

You don't mention how long you will be gone. If you're eating out of a cooler every meal, maybe $10 a day, maybe less if you're just eating peanut butter sandwiches. Some of that cost is to replenish ice.

I would plan on a minimum of $100 a day. Be careful and have fun!
