Stealth camp anywhere along the Appalachian trail in Northern NJ. Or, Pine Barrens in Southern NJ. These are areas where you hike for a while and find your spot. Some spots might technically not be legal, but no one should bother you. Out of site, out of mind.

Does anyone know a nice/good camping site in north jersey?

If you want to stay in NJ, check out Waywayonda State Park and High Point State Park. Even better, go to Harriman State Park in NY, right over the NJ border near Mahwah. Plenty of spots to camp at. They do have Beaver Pond Camp Ground which is a pay site with your own little area next to a bunch of RV's. Then there are the shelter/leanto's along the trails. They are the legal, free spots to camp. The shelters are on a first come basis and must be shared with others. You can pitch a tent within the area of a shelter. Or, you can find your own place off trail somewhere. You're not suppose to, but no one should bother you as long as you're out of site, be careful with fires and take out all your garbage. Harriman is my favorite park in the area for hiking/camping.
Cheers to Clifton, NJ, I have relatives there.
