Any advice on camping in Yosemite in the winter?
Tim
I'm camping in Yosemite in a couple of weeks. Does anyone know how crowded it is? I know it is very difficult to find a tent camping site in the summer, but I am hoping this will not be the case in February. If you know about winter crowds there, let me know.
Answer
only 1/2 the campsites are available on a first come basis weather permitting and you have to have reservations in 6 months in advance for the rest, on that note good luck. Snow is everywhere and tioga pass is closed till march at the earliest weather permitting. Outside the park at lower elevations you may find camping sites available.
â¢Yosemite Valley: Upper Pines Campground is open; on a first-come, first-served basis. North and Lower Pines Campgrounds are closed for the season. Camp 4 is open on a first-come, first-served basis.
â¢Outside Yosemite Valley:
Hodgdon Meadow and Wawona Campgrounds are open on a first-come, first-served basis. Crane Flat, Tamarack Flat, Porcupine Flat, Tuolumne Meadows, White Wolf, Yosemite Creek, and Bridalveil Creek Campgrounds are closed for the season.
Winter crowds are less of course but that still matches it's availability.
Again good luck
