My wife and I want to go to Corolla beach in North Carolina and would like to camp in our tent for a couple of nights. Are there any places to do this in Corolla? If not, where is the closest place in OBX to camp?

Answer
There is a great new app that can map all of the state parks in NC. Also, this app called Pocket Ranger can show you what park is the closest to your current location.

i have used this app in the past and i love it because it can also tell me "things to do" at the park while camping. Its a great one stop shop for all your park needs!

Where are the most secluded campgrounds in Kentucky or North Carolina?

I am planning a camping trip with my boyfriend. Where are the best campsites for tent camping in these states? If you even have specific campsite #'s that would be great. We want to make sure theres trails and its really scenic. Thanks.

Answer
There are several sites in the Daniel Boone Nat'l Forest in Kentucky. The link is of the established sites... not the primitive ones.

The best ones will be the FREE sites... Bee Rock is awesome.. lots and lots of trails there... there's a 5-mile circuit hike with this photo I've taken of it..

The area to check out is the southern area called Big South Fork. It's very secluded..

There are several primitive campsites.. I've been to the Alum Ford Campground.. it's right on the Cumberland River.. very peaceful.. was in the middle of tourist season and i had it all to myself....

You can also go to the Red River Gorge.. there are tons of trails, a wilderness area, natural arches and bridges.. but be warned.. it's overrun with Cincinnati yuppies in the summer time...

North Carolina is beautiful too!
You have the Pisgah and Nantahala Nat'l Forests...
Pisgah has Linville George. Looking Glass Rock, etc., in it... but you must be aware that the area is highly concentrated with Charlotte yuppies on the weekend throughout the year on the weekends and overflooded during the summer with everyone else...

You're best be it to go south to Nantahala... there are two areas to camp for free around Highlands....

Your best resource is Don Wright's Guide to Free Campgrounds. It's a book (an east and west addition) that lists campgrounds in forests and other secluded places that are $12 and under for one night's stay. I use it as my camping bible.. i don't want to stay where RVs and generators are... I suggest you get a copy.. it will help you plan your trip better....

Good luck!
