looking to spend two nights tent camping somewhere that we won't see other people (i.e. no pull-up camping next to rv's) semi experienced campers (with a dog) who are traveling cross country and won't have much gear.

Answer
I can think of three, first there is Samuel P. Taylor state park in Marin county. Lots of redwoods, but lots of campers near by. Then my second choice is Bothe, napa Valley state park. The camp sites are not real close to each other and the best ones are way in the back, hike in which means you park your car and walk 100 feet to the campsite. Lastly if you want to be on the river(your dog would love it), try Cassini ranch campground. The RV's are in one area and the tent camping is in another. The camp sights are very private and some are right on the river, but no redwoods. One other place to check out is the avenue of the giants near Humboldt, Myers flat, and Miranda

What camping/cabin rentals in the redwoods near Santa Cruz would be closest to the ocean?

We are looking to rent a cabin or cottage somewhere in/close to a Redwood park in the Santa Cruz area. We would like something with a close proximity to a nice (hopefully un-crowded) ocean beach. We prefer at least some modern conveniences and a somewhat safe area, but would still like to feel somewhat secluded. We are not familiar with the area so we are hoping people have some good suggestions.
