We will have a 4, 7, & 8 year old with us. We are planning to camp in a tent. I would be interested in any suggestions for this or places that have cabins. Thank you!

Answer
Any of the State Park or Army Corps campgrounds would be great. Carter Caves State Park is one of my favorite places to camp. The kids will love the caves if you opt to take a tour. Carter Caves as well as nearly all of the state parks (http://www.parks.ky.gov) have modern bath houses and play grounds. Have fun!

Anyone have any money saving tips for weekend family trips?

We are on an unbelievably tight budget, but want to take our daughter on a small weekend trip before our son arrives in June. We live in a pretty rural area of KY and the weather is pretty unpredictable so I do not want to strictly book an outdoor trip like a park or something. She is 3. Any advice on how to save the most money on a trip or what kind of fun things you could do that are inexpensive.

Answer
Since she's only three she will be easily entertained, I don't know where you live but in St. Augustine, FL there is an old fort that is free and there's lots of things in it that a 3 year old would like. Like the others take your own food. Rest area on the highways have picnic tables so you could have picnics every day for lunch. If there' a board game for her age, you could play after you've eaten or bring things like coloring books and books you can read to her. At that age they just want your undivided attention and you'll be able to do that easily. You could even bring a tent and camp out at a National or State Park, the cost for camping is not very much and there are usually trails to walk. I bet she'd love that. Zoos are also a good idea as well as Miniature golf. You could even take her to one of those $1.00 stores and let her pick out ten toys. For a special treat take her to McDonald's or a pizza hut, what ever she likes. They are so easy to please at that age and they don't care if it was free or cost a million dollars. Enjoy it while you can, once they hit 12 they are very difficult to please.
