Answer
it's the best time of your life when you're young and about junior high age. I haven't been back since. I'm sure older people go with their own children or find ways to have fun on their own time. But I wouldn't know about the adult activities. I just went there about 3 times in my youth.

as far as specifics, GSP is located about 100 miles west of San Antonio in the hill country. The hills are pretty cool if you are from parts of Texas that have no hills. There is the Frio River that goes through the middle of the park. People of all ages enjoy tubing as there are several stretches of rapids. The size of the rapids depends on how much rain the region has had. There are some summers where the river is almost dry in places. None of the rapids are going to be like the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon mind you! lol...but it's still fun. kinda like the Guadalupe. Unlike the Guadalupe, I do not believe you are allowed to carry beer on the river in the state park portions. But I may be wrong about that. Either way, they do sell beer at the park at a convenience store (some adults I knew drank).

Every night people go to a dance hall where they play country and western dancing. Everyone seems to get into this even if you don't like country dancing because that's just the thing to do at GSP. When in Rome...

This is where I learned to two step back in junior high even though I didn't care for country music too too much back then. It's also where I stole my first kiss.

That's why so many young people like it, esp. junior high age. A lot of first crushes happen here.

There's also a put put golf course near the dancehall.

Aside from that, it's pretty much days filled on the river. Also they have some pretty cool rope swings for the kids to play on.

There are cabins to rent, or you can get electric/water hookups if you have a camper. You can also camp out in a tent if you wish too.

LAST BUT MOST IMPORTANT...
Book your reservations now if you want to go this summer. Garner fills up quickly as soon as they start taking reservations which if I remember correctly is right now. But you might call and find out to make sure. It might be April. Again, I forgot about that.

Borrow a camper if you can and hook it up to a lot with electricity. GSP can be hot in the summer.

My Boyfriend and I are planning a camp trip with our 3 large dogs to the Comal or Guadalupe river but every place we come across doesn't allow pets. Does anyone know of a secret place we can take our water loving pets?? We plan on going this coming weekend.
